When creating an HCP event, you can configure NPI verification requirements:

Verification Levels

• None: NPI not required (not recommended for compliance events)
• Format Only: Validates NPI format but doesn't check NPPES database
• Full Verification: Validates format AND checks active status in NPPES

Handling Non-HCP Attendees

Some events may include non-provider participants:

• Event Coordinators: No NPI required, marked as "Staff"
• Industry Representatives: May not have NPI, require attestation instead
• Students/Residents: May not yet have NPI, allow provisional registration

Common Issues

Invalid NPI Error

If attendee receives "Invalid NPI" error:

• Verify NPI is exactly 10 digits (no spaces or dashes)
• Check NPI hasn't been deactivated or retired
• Confirm typing correct NPI (easy to transpose digits)
• Look up NPI at NPPES Registry

NPPES Lookup Failing

• Check internet connectivity
• NPPES database may be temporarily unavailable (government site)
• Try again after a few minutes
• As fallback, use format-only validation
